A hearty pirate welcome to all of our new and returning, students, faculty and staff. I'm excited about the opportunities and challenges we face and look forward to seeing how our role will be defined over the coming months.
I can't begin to tell you how refreshing it was to return to a few email requests from teachers for recycle bins before the students even arrived. We're very fortunate to be working with a tremendous group of professionals who really care about doing what they can and we appreciate it. I promise you, it doesn't go unnoticed or unappreciated. Thanks!
It's also nice to be coming back to a group of seniors who have spent the last three years giving up their time and energy to make a difference. It's hard enough for many young people to stick with something that they directly benefit from let alone when it requires a great deal of "sweat equity" and relies just on principle. When it's 95° in the shade and your friends, girlfriend or job are waiting in the wings... it shows a great deal of character to want to spend a half an hour or so weekly transporting newspapers. Thanks!
Looking forward to this year I hope that we can continue what we've been doing, expand our influence and really make an effort to reach out to our student body. I can't remember a time in which environmental issues were more prevalent in the main stream media. We have a unique opportunity to be promoting choices that are good for people at a time in which they are most likely to be open to them. I hope that we make the most of it.
